This has all the makings of an email scam and clicking on the link may lead you to a site that seemingly looks legitimate yet may download harmful bits of code or exploits to check on the security of your computer. It may be used by hackers at a later time or if your were scared enough and filled out the online form following their instructions, you’ll surely be a victim of identity theft.
First, financial institutions rarely use email as a way of notifying your account for this is not only unsecured but un-ethical. The real deal would have you proceeding to a branch for the verification process with nothing sent over the internet or through the phone without proper verification of the said details. Be wary and report such activities to your bank’s security center for follow-up and prevention of such scams.
